The ask

This is a project for a Form class during my MDes program at California College of the Arts. The goal is to build a strong understanding of the forms in graphic design through a speculative entrepreneurial project.

Inspiration

Honey and I come from very different cultures, but there is something that is truly important to both of us, which is building meaningful connections and sharing quality time with our friends and families.

Research highlights

In order to understand what we gain and what we miss out on when we take photos, we interviewed a few people around us. Our aim was to understand what they experience and what they remember from meetups or gatherings.

Immersive memories

Factors like weather and locations can be used to trigger memories and enhance the immersive experience.

Storytelling through memories could be powerful in enhancing the feeling of nostalgia.

Experiencing more than capturing

Facilitate mindful engagement through features encouraging users to slow down and appreciate their surroundings.

Building emotional resonance that taps into users' emotions and creates lasting memories that impact users' engagement with the product over time.

Going beyond photos

Embracing the moments spent with family and friends is a way for users to connect with their loved ones and create shared memories that they can cherish for years to come.

Chasing memories rather than filters and selfies can create experiences that are meaningful and personal to the user.

The user group for Tart will eventually be users who generate art, Tartist community who build themes for users to choose from, and connoisseurs who purchase and resell the generated art.

For this project, we mainly focus on the first user group, and we imagine 2 archetypes:

As a team, we have decided to create a journey map for our project to understand our users' experiences better and identify opportunities for improvement. This allowed us to visualize our users' interactions with our product and identify pain points, opportunities for delight, and areas for improvement.

Building the brand identity

At the heart of our app's brand is a set of three core values that we hold dear: Connection, celebration, and nostalgia.

To bring these values to life in our brand identity, we've incorporated vibrant colors and bold imagery. The overall aesthetic has a touch of surrealism and retro flair to evoke that warm, fuzzy feeling of nostalgia. and nostalgia and to replicate those values in our brand identity, we used a lot of bold colors and imagery. There is a hint of surrealism and retro flair in the look and feel - this is to induce that feeling of nostalgia.

Ethical consideration

Memories used correctly

We want to make sure that the app is used responsibly and respectfully, especially in sensitive or emotional situations. We need to consider the ethical implications of using immersive memories in different contexts and populations.

User data, user control

Users should have clear ownership of their data and have the right to access, modify, and delete their data. The app should have transparent data management policies and procedures to ensure that user data is handled appropriately.

Personal privacy

The app will be collecting and storing user data, which includes personal information and potentially sensitive audio recordings. It is important to ensure that user data is securely stored and protected from unauthorized access or misuse.

Cultural sensitivity

The app's algorithms should be culturally sensitive and avoid biases that may discriminate against certain groups or individuals. It is important to ensure that the app's output does not perpetuate stereotypes or reinforce negative attitudes towards certain cultures or ethnic groups.
